What in the water crisis?

Eastern Cape, South Africa has been one of the worst hit Provinces with the ongoing drought. We know Cape Town was so close to approaching Day Zero but maybe the Eastern Cape has?

Let’s look into it shall we? Some municipalities have been having water restrictions since early 2016. As a result, the Department of Water Affairs has since allowed for emergency water supplies to be limited to 10l a day.

Some reasons sited for such harsh drought conditions are poor water management by municipalities, low precipitation levels and the vandalism of infrastructure.

With the on going pandemic and lockdown, The Department of Water Affairs was tasked to provide local communities with water tanks. However, this is said to be a short term resolution as alternatives and more permeant solutions are being sought.
